This one day training is split into two parts:

Fees: $25.00 for both sessions.
Low fee made possible by grant award from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Maternal and Child Health Division (MCH) from the Access to Reproductive Health Services and Contraceptive Care.

Part 1 - Contraception Prescribing Education for Indiana Pharmacists
Time & Length of Session:  8am - 11am - 3 Hours of CE available

Description: This training program is accepted by the Indiana Board of Pharmacy as required training for pharmacists to prescribe hormonal contraception per statewide protocol. The program includes background, review of methods, protocol procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and prescribing authorities in Indiana.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Identify accurate counseling points and communication approaches for effectiveness, side effects, and instructions for use of combined hormonal contraception (including pills, patches, and rings), progestin only pills, and the depot medroxyprogesterone acetate injection 
  2. Discuss management of contraceptive side effects and when to refer patients for additional care 
  3.  Describe appropriate screening procedures, processes, and communication approaches for pharmacist-managed contraception services per the Indiana statewide protocol 
  4. Apply the U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use to patient scenarios to identify appropriate contraceptive methods.
Part 2:  Health Equity Training for Pharmacists Providing Contraception

Time & Length of Session:  12pm – 4pm - 4 Hours of CE available

Description: This training will provide pharmacists with additional skills and knowledge to provide equitable contraception access to all people within their community.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Demonstrate the use of person-centered contraception counseling techniques. 
  2. Apply the principles of trauma-informed care in contraception appointments. 
  3. Identify and address one’s individual implicit biases as they relate to patient care. 
  4. Generate a site-specific list of local resources and potential community partners for patient referrals 
  5. Discuss strategies to provide care for patients in multiple languages.
IPA utilizes Lecture Panda for claiming of CE credits. Before the event, you will receive an email with details about the upcoming event along with a link and instructions for utilizing Lecture Panda for the CE credits earned. The passing of a post test, completing an activity evaluation form, participating in the session you are claiming CE for is required. NABP e-PID number, month/day of birth for submission to CPE Monitor®, etc will be completed through Lecture Panda.
